Which features do you still want to have in Age of Empires 4?
Age of Empires 4: That changes with Update 7989
To dampen the anticipation a little: There are no patch notes that are long pages with this update. Instead, the developers are focusing on five specific changes:
- Performance: When panning the camera over the map, there should now be fewer FPS drops
- Life bar: The life bars should now be displayed permanently and no longer disappear if you have activated the option
- Mongols: The Mongol village center can no longer be placed next to an enemy village center. Instead, it must now be in a revealed area and more than 20 spaces away from an opposing village center.
- Steam: Players on Steam can now link their account to their Xbox Live account
- Minor improvements in translations
When will the patch be available? Update 7989 has been available for download from November 15 at 6:00 p.m. on both Steam and the Xbox app.
How big is the download? Despite the few changes, the update is 9.62 gigabytes.
Saves and replays: you need to know that
If you save a lot of repetitions of your matches, you should arm yourself before downloading the update. According to Relic Entertainment, you will no longer be able to use replays of your previous matches after the update. If you want to save some particularly exciting matches, you should save them separately using external recording tools such as OBS.
On the other hand, there should be no restrictions for scores of ongoing matches. The team
have taken additional steps to ensure that your saves are not affected by this particular update. One hundred percent, however, it obviously cannot be ruled out that incompatible save versions could possibly arise.
