He assumes that the top GPU will be a real power hog and a TDP of 550 watts achieved. For comparison: The current top model, the RTX 3090, has a TDP of 350 watts, the consumption of the 2080 Ti at that time was 250 watts.

If Greymon55’s assumption turns out to be true, it might offend some PC gamers. Because with such a high power consumption, the difference would also increase at the end of the year clearly noticeable on the electricity bill.

In addition, it should not be forgotten that the heat development would also increase due to the increased power consumption. In other words: The graphics card will be much harder to cool and could additionally heat up your premises in summer.

But not only the new Nvidia graphics cards could become real power guzzlers in the next generation. Greymon55 assumes that AMD’s top models could also land at a TDP of around 500 watts. For many PC players, a change of the power supply unit should then be necessary at the latest.

But it will take a while before that happens. It is currently assumed that Nvidia’s RTX 4000 graphics cards will be launched in October 2022, AMD’s new models should be in stores in early 2023. It remains to be seen whether the new GPUs will then be available at the MSRP, or whether prices will skyrocket thanks to the chip crisis and scalpers.
