When I looked again at last year’s news for this Christmas news, I noticed some differences. Last year we were cautiously optimistic that the pandemic could perhaps be contained in 2021. Well, as we know, it is not.
So I can only repeat myself: 2021 was incredibly exhausting for all of us and there is still a great deal of uncertainty about how things will continue. 2021 was definitely not the best year for gamers. Even if Michi denies it in a column.
Sure, there were of course absolute pearls and surprise hits. It Takes Two has deservedly cleared the Game Award as Game of the Year. And we also declared in the test that It Takes Two is one of the best co-op games of all time. Kena also impressed us. In the test, Stefan raved about the harmonious look and the tough fights.
But 2021 was mainly the year of postponements for gamers: Dying Light 2, which is also only released in Germany, Evil Dead, Rainbow Six Extraction, Total War Warhammer 3, Lost Ark, The Lord of the Rings Gollum, Hogwarts Legacy, Scorn and many more will not come until 2022.
Titles that actually came out in 2021 struggled with quality issues. The mother of all disappointments was probably the GTA Trilogy. But New World and its many problems also made headlines almost every day. I don’t want to start with the Diablo 2 servers.
There are many different reasons why this year has to end, please. But there is hope from a playful point of view: Elden Ring, Horizon: Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, Stalker 2, Saints Row and possibly God of War Ragnarök. That sounds good!
