If you want to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X, you still need patience and a bit of luck – even more than a year after the release. Due to delivery problems and the global shortage of chips, the demand exceeds the supply: New (often small) stocks at retailers are usually completely out of stock after just a few minutes – there is great interest. In one Conversation with investors AMD boss Lisa Su draws an extremely positive résumé for the past year – and shows whether the strong sales figures for the PS5 and Xbox Series X are quite impressed.
2022 will also be a strong year for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S
“If you look at the console cycle as a whole, it is outstanding,” said the AMD boss. She particularly emphasizes the strength of the cycle, which is now in its second year and continues to generate great demand. “We are continuing our efforts to increase the production of the chips,” added Su. She anticipates that for PS5 (buy now ) and Xbox Series X / S is another strong year ahead of 2022 – and sales continue to rise. “If you look at the typical console cycles, the peak is usually reached in the fourth year,” says Su, adding that the peak can therefore be expected in 2023.
There is still a shortage of chips
It remains to be seen whether Su is right with her statements. AMD previously predicted that chip shortages could also be expected in 2022.
