How does fallout taste? Leaky taste screen is under development

Eating is a part of many video games. While some of them may even give you an advantage in the game, others only serve as decoration. Either way, it often looks so good that one wonders how it would taste. You may soon be able to give the answer to yourself.

Licking the screen: no longer just a silly thought

In almost every video game there is something to eat. Potions, sweets or entire dishes – often you even have to buy or collect ingredients and prepare them yourself. This can be great fun and look pretty, yes in the end the taste is missing.

For games like Fallout, World of Warcraft, The Witcher, Final Fantasy 14, Skyrim and Co. there are cookbooks that you can use to cook dishes, but how about you get the taste experience without any work could?

Homei Miyashita, a professor at Meiji University, has developed a prototype of a lickable screen. The “Taste the TV” (TTTV) exudes a combination of ten different flavors, in order to imitate the taste of certain foods.

The flavor is then on a slide that can be placed over the screen. Of course, these can be easily exchanged.

“The goal is to give people the experience of eating in a restaurant on the other side of the world, even if they can’t be there,” the professor told Reuters.

In this video you can see how exactly it works:

Who is this screen for?

In an interview with Reuters, Miyashita stated that the screen for training chefs and sommeliers as well as for tasting and quiz games can be used. But this is only the beginning. Who knows what else can come of this idea? Maybe someday you will be able to taste the RAD seagull power noodles from Fallout – hopefully without the RAD.

The professor assumes that the commercial version of the screen will be 100,000 yen, that is about 765 euros, will cost. It is not yet known when it will be launched.
