New year, new luck! Spread over twelve months, there will definitely be a lot of games full of great gameplay ideas, exciting mechanics and profound game principles awaiting us again in 2022.
But you know what? We don’t give a damn today! Yes, today we are very superficial and judge books by their cover; or just games according to their graphics.
Yes, even games that look simple can be artistically beautiful. But this is about the blockbusters, which simply really shoot technically; or could shoot in.
Because of course we don’t yet know for sure whether these upcoming games really deserve the advance praise. And for some it is also not clear whether they will actually hit in 2022.
But these games all have the potential to become graphics bombs, be it because of developers with experience or the first trailers that have really torn us away. As far as known, the ranking is based on the release date, otherwise according to the alphabet. Have fun drooling – with number 1-7!
Santa Monica Studio | January 14, 2022 | PC
If a port from an almost four-year-old last-gen game appears on this list, then the developers have really delivered. But yes, God of War on the PS4 still looks awesome today. And on the PC, the Nordic adventure shines even brighter.
There is then no high-rendering, there is pure 4K. The frame rate has no fixed limit, and all kinds of technical delicacies ensure an experience that would not have been possible on the console.
If you’ve always wanted to catch up on the adventure of Papa Kratos and son Boy, um, Atreus anyway, this should be the best opportunity.
Naughty Dog | 28. Januar 2022 (PS5), 2022 (PC) | PC, PS5
If a port from an almost six-year-old last-gen game appears on this list, then the developers have really delivered. What, we already had the introduction almost as well? Well, what should you do, the Sony studios are doing a lot right! And with Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, not only one is traveling, but two of the most beautiful PS4 games are coming to PC and PS5.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and the spin-off Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, like God of War, offer all sorts of technical improvements. You will then experience the title in real 4K and at 60 frames per second. Without 4K it’s even 120 FPS!
The PC version is coming later than the one for PS5, and there is not yet the full amount of information about the port. But one can assume that this version will have even more graphically on the box.

Do you feel like we do, that you regularly confuse Dying Light 2: Stay Human and Dead Island 2 in your head? If so, there is a very easy way to differentiate: Dying Light 2 will actually appear, namely next April. Well, Dead Island 2 is also supposed to come sometime in 2022, but we won’t believe that until it’s finished in front of us.
On the other hand, we were able to try Dying Light 2 ourselves, and yes, that looks pretty promising. There are still bugs and a few wooden animations, but significantly fewer than in the predecessor, which is still indexed in Germany today. You can easily tell that all corners and ends have been graphically polished.
Also important in a game of this kind: The zombies must be pretty gross, and that definitely works out great. In this respect: good prospects for Dead Island 2! We mean for Dying Island 2 of course! Or Dead Light 2! Oh, we’re giving up.
Guerilla Games | 18. Februar 2022 | PS5, PS4
We’ll stay with Sony, who have mastered the beginning of the year quite well. In mid-February, heroine Aloy starts her second adventure in Horizon: Forbidden West after Horizon: Zero Dawn. Even the first album was a graphic stunner, this time it shouldn’t be any different. In fact, it was the first trailer for Horizon: Forbidden West that made many players’ jaws drop and they thought: yes, now Next Gen has really arrived.
For PS4, however, how drastic the differences will be remains to be seen. In the so far exclusively shown PS5 version, a beautiful, colorful and detailed world meets fantastic effects and animations of the heroine, which can hardly be distinguished from reality.
If it’s still as good as Zero Dawn in terms of play, then a Game-of-the-Year candidate should be clear early in the year.
Polyphony Digital | March 4, 2022 | PS5, PS4
Turn up the speedometer and take out the piston, off you go on the virtual slope! As you can see, the author of these lines doesn’t have much knowledge of how cars work. But he doesn’t have to, because a pair of eyes is enough to see: Gran Turismo 7 looks forbidden good in the previous trailer material.
This is not so surprising, because killer optics has always been one of the main talents of the developer Polyphony Digital. On the PS5 it looks a bit better than on the first Gran Turismo for the Playstation 1. 4K, HDR, Raytracing, 60 frames per second: Everything is fine, but translated into practice that means for us simply: wow . Both the slopes and, above all, the cars that have been worked out down to the last detail look simply fantastic.
In terms of play, Gran Turismo may sometimes be behind Forza these days. Graphically, however, it will be a very close race. Do you understand? Run? Because racing game? Um, yeah. Oh yeah, we’ll get to Forza later too, of course!
GSC Game World | 28. April 2022 | PC, XSX
It feels like STALKER has always been a large series of games. After the first part of 2007 there were actually only two semi-sequels in the two years after that, nothing else. In 2010 the announcement of the first “real” sequel followed, release: 2012. That did not work as well.
Many almost development stops and various restarts later, however, we are now here looking at the release date of a post-apocalyptic role-playing game shooter that really rocks graphically in the previous material. Or rather, STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl is actually not a post-apocalyptic, but a … present … normalitarian … shooter, because the game is set in an alternative present and not after the end of the world … Okay, now our head hurts!
In any case, the PC and Xbox exclusive title clearly takes advantage of the fact that it no longer has to consider PS4 and Xbox One. Incredibly detailed environments, impressive physics gadgets, a broken, believable world: This is what the post-apocalypse should look like! We think, of course, that this is how the … not … broken … present has to look like.
Luminous Productions | 24. Mai 2022 | PC, PS5
Young woman from our reality is drawn into a magical alternative dimension and finds out that she has supernatural powers and must save the world. No, we are not summarizing the story of pretty much all of the Wolfgang Hohlbein youth novels here, but rather that of Forspoken.
Ignoring the somewhat cheesy premise, the adventure is definitely one of the hit candidates for 2022 and has been pleasing with exciting real-time battles so far. And the world looks really great! Heroine Frey fights her way through an open world, which is characterized by extensive plains, but also promises to convince again and again with beautifully designed ruins and inhabited areas.
In the real-time battles, the quality does not deteriorate, because we are happy about the flowing animations and pretty fireworks of effects. No wonder, since there are many Final Fantasy 15 developers on it. You can blame it for a lot, but not that it wasn’t quite a graphics showcase too.
It continues on page 2 with numbers 8-14!
