Microsoft has made a strong statement on the console market with the Xbox Series X|S and can now celebrate an impressive milestone. With the success, the new Xbox consoles are even staying on the heels of the coveted PS5.
Despite the continuing shortage of consoles, Microsoft can look forward to a sales record. According to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, the new console generation of the Xbox Series X|S more consoles than any other generation after just over a year sold at the same time previously. An industry insider also shares a significant milestone on Twitter that establishes contact with the PS5.
Sales milestone: Xbox stays on PS5’s heels
In a report in The New York Times, Spencer reports that the strong demand for the Xbox Series X|S continues and exceeds the available supply. As if that wasn’t reason enough to celebrate, industry insider Daniel Ahmad also tweeted that according to his estimates currently sold around 12 million Xbox Series X|S consoles have been. With this remarkable number, Microsoft is ranked behind Sony’s PS5, which had sold a total of almost 13 million copies towards the end of September 2021, but is still clearly within reach.
2022 could be a big year for Microsoft
The lack of semiconductors and thus the shortage of consoles will not disappear overnight in 2022 either. Nevertheless, there is hope that at least from the second half of the year it will be easier to get a next-gen console. In all probability, this will also be particularly worthwhile in 2022, because with numerous hyped Triple-A-Releases wie Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Gotham Knights, Redfall, Stalker 2, Scorn und Starfield there will be a huge selection of new games for the Xbox Series X|S.
